I’ve never been obsessed with fashion. But I’ve always cared about comfort

ZAI was born from this need, a craving for ease and simplicity without compromising on style. I wanted to build something for women like me: women who juggle multiple roles, who want to look good but need to feel comfortable. Women who rely on the golden 20% of their wardrobe that actually gets worn - on school runs, coffee breaks, work calls, and slow Sundays. Living in Goa (and earlier, Mumbai), I found most clothes just didn’t work for the climate or my body. I’d wear the same few outfits on repeat, not out of habit, but because the rest never felt right.

I’m chest-heavy, and shirts were never made with my body in mind. I’d size up just to avoid pulling or gaping, only to end up in silhouettes that slumped, bunched, or felt stiff. They were built for boardrooms - not real bodies.

Eventually, I gave up. I started buying shirts from the men’s section just to feel at ease. 

Then came the oversized trend, which helped a little, but unless you styled them just right (and who has time every morning?), it was easy to feel like you were drowning in fabric.

The truth is, it wasn’t just about the shirts. It was about how I felt in them - uncomfortable, overthinking, shrinking. And I know I’m not the only one.

That’s why I started ZAI. I wanted to design shirts that work with your body - not against it. Shirts that move with you, flatter your shape, and feel like second skin.
